5 Apprenticeship Myths
We are debunking some of the biggest apprenticeship myths and misconceptions. Is there a myth you’d like busted? Send us a message and we’ll be happy to answer you!

Apprenticeship Myth 1 – Apprenticeships are for 16-24 year olds or school and college leavers…
Apprenticeships are not just for 16-24 years olds or school and college leavers. If you’re currently in work, you could be eligible and suitable for apprenticeships too – they are a great way for your employer to support yourself and your colleagues who require development, have changed roles, gained additional responsibilities or recently been promoted. Additionally, if you’re looking for a change of career, you could be eligible.
Apprenticeship Myth 2 – A-levels and University Degrees are better than apprenticeships…
A-levels and University Degrees are not better than apprenticeships, they are just different. Undertaking an apprenticeship means that you’re gaining the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to do a particular job. You can move up through the apprenticeship levels and in many cases complete a degree as part of a higher apprenticeship.
Apprenticeship Myth 3 – Every apprentice receives minimum wage…
Not everyone on an apprenticeship receives the Minimum Apprenticeship Wage. Many employers will pay more than this. If you’re already working, you would continue to be paid your current salary.
Apprenticeship Myth 4 – An apprenticeship means you have to go to college…
An apprenticeship does not mean you have to spend 1 day a week in a classroom environment or college. Other forms of training could be included in this percentage such as shadowing, online training, and one-to-ones.
Apprenticeship Myth 5 – You can only do apprenticeships in manual or construction jobs…
Although there are many apprenticeships in the building and construction industry, there are also a huge range of apprenticeships in different industries. We offer apprenticeships in Business studies, Health, Medical & Care, Early Years & Education, Science and Digital.
We offer apprenticeships at levels 2 through to 5 in a range of sectors. Programmes are suitable if you’re leaving school or college, looking for a change of career or already in work but requiring new skills to support a promotion or change of job role.
