Christmas Crafts for Early Years
Some fun ideas to help you be creative with your little ones during this festive season.

- Some old wrapping paper
- A glass to draw around
- Scissors
- Sellotape
- Glue stick
- A4 coloured paper or card, including a couple of sheets of white paper
- Toilets rolls
- A pipe cleaner
- Crayons or pencils including an orange and black one
- Tin foil, or shiny paper if you have it
- Any bits that look like they might be fun to use like ribbon, pom poms, glitter glue or anything nice
- Anything sparkly that could be stuck on to decorate a Christmas card
- Brown card or envelope.

Early Years Craft – Salt Dough Baubles
Come and have some fun with your little ones to start the Xmas week.
- 250g plain flour
- 125g salt
- 125ml water
- Mixing bowl
- Rolling Pin
- Straws
- Blunt knife for cutting/cookie cutters
Making and decorating Gingerbread men
Come and create and bake some gingerbread men – as well as some gentle exercise to work up an appetite.
Ingredients:
- 125g plain flour plus 50g wholemeal flour
- 1½tsp ground ginger
- ½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 50g butter or margarine
- 65g soft light brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1½ tbsp golden syrup or maple syrup
- cookie cutters

You will also need cutters, raisins, small sweets, sprinkles, writing icing, icing sugar etc for decorating.
- Grease a baking sheet; turn oven to 190 degrees, gas mark 5.
- Sift flour, ginger and bicarbonate of soda into a bowl. Cut butter into chunks and rub into flour until mixture looks like breadcrumbs.
- Stir in sugar. Break egg into small bowl and add syrup. Beat well together.
- Stir eggy mixture into flour and mix to form a dough. Knead on a floured surface until smooth.
- Roll out dough to a thickness of 5mm. Cut shapes from dough and put on baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes -be careful not to overcook as they are not so good hard!
- Cool on sheet for a few minutes and then put on a wire rack to cool completely.
- Decorate as required.
