Course Aims
- to gain an understanding of the way that your children are learning at school
- to improve parents’/carers’ ability to support children’s learning and development
- to improve parents’/carers’ own skills and knowledge
- experienced tutors – there to help you
Course content will include: (depending on appropriate Key Skills)
- how children learn to read and write
- phonics and the relationship between letters and sounds
- play and the link to communication development
- spelling strategies
- sentence structure and grammar
- how to encourage reading and writing
- fiction/non-fiction/genre
- written communication: formal/informal
- purpose of writing/audience
