2022 Skills Challenge
We’re on a mission to ensure Essex residents feel supported in every area of their lives. This could be to support you finding work, improving wellbeing, managing your finances, or helping you care for others in the community.
I don’t feel I have the time.
A lot of us are very busy, our weeks are made up of work and family commitments and learning something new may be something that we just don’t think we can fit into our lives at this time. The ways we learn new skills have changed. We can now learn them in our free time, at home online, at work as part of a development plan or apprenticeship. Learning can be tailored to you.
I feel like I’ve been forgotten about
You are not alone in feeling this. There are many people who feel like they have been let down by previous education providers. We’re here to provide you with the support you need. All you need to do is reach out to us and tell us what you would like to achieve.
I don’t have the money to train
Gaining new skills and qualifications (in the past) has been expensive. There are now fully funded options available for those who have not gained equivalent levels or earn below a certain household income. We also have free courses in Maths, English, Employability and Digital skills, in addition to Mental Health and Wellbeing to support you. Our staff are here for you to provide you with advice on the next step in your learning journey and career pathways.
I would prefer to use my time to support others than work on myself
If supporting the people around you is important, then learning the skills to do this effectively should be too. We have opportunities for you to volunteer whilst developing your skills.
