Clacton-based ACL Essex learners benefit from range of maths courses

Our learners embraced the opportunity to show off their maths skills to the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, during his visit to Clacton.

The Prime Minister saw an ACL Functional Skills Maths class in action at the Clacton Library on Wednesday 18 October. Mr Sunak visited the class as part of his trip to view Levelling Up work in the area.

“It was the best day ever for me when I personally met with the prime minister of the UK Rishi Sunak at Clacton Library. On 18 October when I went to ACL college for my maths class, our teacher Neil and the principal told us a VIP was coming. It was a total surprise for our class. He is a very nice gentleman and down to earth. We sat together and we shared what we are learning from our ACL math teacher, Neil. Who is very talented. Thanks a lot”

In line with the government’s commitment to support and develop Clacton, we offer a range of maths courses for people of all abilities.

Our most recent offer, Multiply, which is a government funded program is suitable for those who do not currently hold a GCSE in maths at grace 4/C or above. These short courses are also suitable for people who would simply just like to gain more confidence in Maths to improve their everyday life. Whether that is supporting their children with their homework, finding the best price in the supermarket, using graphs and spreadsheets for work, or measuring food or materials for cooking or DIY. Completing a Multiply workshop is a great way to make maths fun and could provide the skills to improve maths confidence.

Functional Skills maths classes are also available for people who would like to build on the numeracy basics. Learners can also gain a maths qualification in as little as six months by completing a GCSE maths course, which are free for those who do not already hold a grade 4/C or above.

It was a pleasure to show the Prime Minister how we are supporting Clacton residents to build their maths confidence.

Progression and pathways information, advice and guidance are also available for all learners. We support learners to take the next steps in their learning journey or get started on their chosen career path. Learners who complete courses with ACL Essex can access a wide range of opportunities or go on to undertake further courses and qualifications.
