Sustainability at ACL

Our Goals are to respond to the skills needs of the new green career pathways, encourage a greener future and work in collaboration with other organisations towards Net Zero. Together with providing a range of courses, we have embedded sustainability in our course content to raise awareness of environmental issues.

Key green initiatives:

  • Reduce travel by developing an online learning offer
  • Offer Retrofit courses that includes funded options
  • Develop a roadmap to sustainability, including being part of Race to Net Zero, the largest ever coalition of education providers
  • Embed sustainability in our courses
  • Develop hybrid classrooms in key ACL learning spaces

Moving towards a more sustainable curriculum

Our courses provide our learners with the opportunity to explore new ways to be environmentally friendly and sustainable whilst developing skills with others in a range of intriguing subject areas. This includes discovering the wonderful world of traditional crafts and thrift crafts that incorporate elements of sustainability. We have also embedded sustainability in other curriculum areas, for example writing about environmental issues and learning new phrases in English language and looking at percentages of climate change in maths. We continue to look at new ways in which we can relate course subject matter to important real world and current topics.

Retrofit Level 2 – 5 Courses (could be fully funded)

In partnership with The Retrofit Academy, we are now delivering Retrofit training Level 2 through to Level 5.

Retrofit is the process of upgrading existing homes to make them more energy efficient. This usually involves improving the fabric of the house through installing insulation, upgrading the building services, and introducing renewable energy and heat sources.

These courses will help to:

  • Open the door to extensive job opportunities
  • Eradicate fuel poverty
  • Ensure the UK’s housing stock is more energy efficient
  • Contribute towards sustainability
  • Improve people’s lives, homes, and local community
  • These courses are delivered in centre and online.

Flexible Learning

Whatever your ambitions start fulfilling them! Take the next steps in your career with a course you can complete at a time that suits you.

Race to Zero

We have signed up to UNFCCC Race to Zero Campaign. This global campaign will rally leadership and support from businesses, cities, regions, investors for a healthy, resilient, zero carbon recovery that prevents future threats, creates decent jobs, and unlocks inclusive, sustainable growth.
