Are you passionate about making a difference in the Health and Social Care sector? The ACL Nightingale Health and Social Care Bursary could be your gateway to a rewarding career, just as it has been for Daniel Joseph.

Daniel, currently pursuing an Adult Care Level 3 apprenticeship with ACL Essex, embarked on his journey in the sector with a personal mission. “I decided to work in the care sector to care for my cousin. My cousin had some mental challenges, so this is why I decided to care for him. I have always had in my mind to work in the health and social care sector,” he shares. His story is a testament to the profound impact that personal experiences can have on career choices.

Leaping into the field, Daniel quickly realised the vast need for dedicated individuals in Health & Social Care. “It was an eye-opener for me, and I never knew people needed that amount of care,” he says. His training at ACL has equipped him with the skills to handle a variety of situations, enhancing his capacity to support those in need. “Training has also helped me as I can work better in different situations, and it has been very fantastic. For example, if someone has been abused, I now know how to deal with this as a result of my training at ACL.”

Daniel’s current course, a Diploma in Adult Care Level 3, has been a transformative experience. “I am completing a Diploma in Adult Care Level 3, and so far, it has been very informative. I have been able to work in different parts of care. Since starting my course, I have had a very good tutor, and they have been very informative. I am currently a senior carer, and since taking this qualification, we have undertaken new risk assessments and set up electronic medication reminders.” The bursary and the course have empowered Daniel to practice his learning in real-world settings, building his capacity for growth and excellence.

One of the joys of working in this sector, as Daniel describes, is the satisfaction derived from helping others. “The most enjoyable part of the health and social care sector is the smile from my clients, and working with colleagues makes me go home happy. I also enjoy helping vulnerable people as it feels good and gives me a bit of satisfaction going home every day knowing I have helped someone.”

Looking ahead, Daniel has ambitious goals. “I hope to achieve the ability to build capacity and progress in the health and social care sector. I also hope to build towards gaining a higher level of qualification. I want to progress in my job role and become either an assistant manager or a manager. I would also like to work as a social worker.”

For those considering a career in Health & Social Care, Daniel offers this advice: “I would say to anyone thinking about starting a career in health and social care to just give it a try. You don’t know how much your contribution will bring to someone else who is in care.”

The ACL Nightingale Health & Social Care Bursary is more than just financial support; it’s an opportunity to gain invaluable skills and make a significant impact on the lives of others. If you’re inspired by Daniel’s journey, consider applying for the bursary and take the first step towards a fulfilling career in Health & Social Care.
