We recently caught up with Necitas, a dedicated learner who has built a fulfilling career in health and social care. Her journey through ACL’s Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management in Adult Care and the support of the Nightingale Care Bursary has helped her grow in confidence, take on new responsibilities, and continue her lifelong love of learning. Continue reading to hear her story.
Why I Chose Health and Social Care
I decided to work in health and social care, as this was my role within the Philippines before I moved to the UK in 2005. My motivation to working within health and social care sector is the sense of enjoyment and fulfilment I gain for supporting the needs of those under my care. I also find providing care to others makes me happy, and I find I am always happy to help with giving care.
Growing into Leadership
Whilst undergoing my Level 5 Qualification, I was interviewed and offered the role of being a deputy manager within a charity organisation that supports adults with neurological problem, which is a more clinical side of the care.
I am currently completing the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management in Adult Care, and undergoing this course has increased my confidence immensely, which led me to apply for my deputy role and look at higher positions within the health and social care industry.
As a deputy manager, the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management in Adult Care has supported me to lead a team with confidence. The knowledge the course brings provides me with support within my role and additionally outside my role and as a mum. The skills I learnt within this qualification has supported my confidence when interviewing for my new position, which was noted during my interview.
Personal Fulfilment and Continuous Learning
I enjoy working in the health and social care sector as I can support all kinds of people and when supporting them, I am learning continuously, which leads to a sense of personal reward. I say it provides me with a ‘song to my soul’ being able to support others and makes my heart happy and is a feeling hard to describe.
Looking Ahead: My Career Aspirations
I am planning to progress with further knowledge which I am gaining through my course, and on completion will continue to look for learning opportunities, including further training with ACL and the other courses they offer.
My future career plans don’t really have a limit, I was always continuing to seek new opportunities and have a love for continually learning and looking for new learning prospects to go further within my role and responsibilities.
To anyone thinking about working in health and social care, I would strongly recommend it to those who in their hearts enjoy looking after others. It is a very rewarding and fulfilling sector to be working in because of the care you express to others.
The Nightingale Care Bursary
The Nightingale Care Bursary has supported me in the delivery of my role and progression into more senior roles. The bursary has also supported my knowledge of the delivery of care at a much higher level and has given me the confidence and knowledge to lead. The course has also been amazing from the point of view that I can learn at my own pace, in my own time and with the support of a tutor.
I would strongly recommend the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management in Adult care, and I would say to those not training with ACL’s health and social care courses; to give it a go as it is an eye opener to the places you can take yourself.
