The skills and careers team at ACL Essex is shining a light, during National Mentoring Month (January), on the mentoring services available. The New Year is a key time for people to reflect on their achievements and ambitions. Whether starting out, changing careers, or improving skills, ACL is offering free dedicated support to help people thrive.
Mentors at ACL Essex provide an invaluable role. Many of our learners join on an entry level course, perhaps as an apprentice. Some are looking for a career-change, or a return to the workplace. Often, learners are unsure where to start and are anxious about how they could reach their goals. Our team of advisors are on-hand to provide individual support.
Mentors provide help with exploring career pathways, such as how a trainee hair stylist can become an artistic director. They also provide personal development and employability skills to ensure our learners can reach their potential. They’re amazing at opening people’s eyes to a world of opportunity, then helping them get there.
Mentors at ACL Essex have also devised a range of online support materials for all. If you’re looking for help to break into a wide range of industries, such as health and social care, there’s career maps to download. The team has also created tools to illustrate how people’s skills can be used in a wide range of careers. The service is free and helps to widen residents’ aspirations and goals.
Also online is a range of guidance on interview technique, CV writing and tips to combat first day nerves. There’s also information on how to disclose a disability, plus advice on the reasonable adjustments you should receive.
