Out and About in Tendring: Connecting Communities with ACL Essex

Since starting my new role as a Marketing and PR Assistant with ACL Essex, I’ve had the pleasure of exploring the vibrant Tendring district and meeting the many welcoming communities that make this area such a special place to live and learn. My role allows me to promote the wide range of courses and support ACL offers, attend local events, and help residents discover how we can support their learning, wellbeing, and personal development.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve attended several community events that have truly showcased the unity of Tendring’s local networks. From the Patient Health Event in Clacton to the Winter Warmers Event in Lawford, and the exciting launch of the new ACL Harwich centre and Library, it has been inspiring to see how ACL is embedded into the heart of the community.

Working Together for Wellbeing

At the Winter Warmers event, I met the team from CVST (Community Voluntary Services Tendring) and learned about their Winter Project, which helps residents stay warm, healthy, and supported during the colder months. This initiative provides access to essential products, ensuring people are well-fed and cared for during severe weather. It was a fantastic opportunity to explore how ACL can work alongside CVST and other partners to offer year-round support through education, wellbeing initiatives, and community engagement.

Supporting Learning Goals in Clacton

The Patient Health Event in Clacton was another rewarding experience. I had the chance to speak directly with residents about their learning goals and how ACL’s courses can support them, whether they’re looking to gain new skills, find a pathway to employment or simply learn something new for enjoyment. I also connected with partners who were already familiar with ACL’s work and eager to share our offerings with those who can benefit. It was a great moment to spotlight our beauty courses, which not only teach practical skills but also provide a safe, welcoming space for residents to relax, connect and build self-confidence.

ACL: More Than Just Courses

Being out and about in the community has given me a deeper understanding of the support available across Tendring and the vital role ACL plays in connecting people. At ACL, it’s not just about the courses, it’s about creating inclusive, supportive environments where residents can build skills, explore opportunities, and meet new people. Every conversation I’ve had has shown me how passionate local organisations are, and how, by working together, we can empower residents with the confidence, knowledge, and tools they need to thrive.

Come Say Hello!

If you see ACL at any upcoming events, please do come and say hello! We’re always happy to chat about our courses, point you in the right direction, and support you in any way we can. Whether you’re looking to learn something new, improve your wellbeing, or connect with others, ACL is here to help.
