ACL Essex gives hair and beauty opportunities for National Careers Week

ACL Essex showcases personalised pathways and dedicated learner support during National Careers Week

With National Careers Week (2 – 7 March) starting, ACL Essex is showcasing its enhanced hair and beauty courses. The adult education provider is highlighting its unique learner‑centred approach. It is also showcasing the many different careers available in the hair and beauty sector.

Councillor Tony Ball, Cabinet Member for Education, Lifelong Learning and Employability, Essex County Council, said: “The hair and beauty sector is growing. ACL Essex is meeting the demand by offering focussed, quality training. This enables adults to get the skills to thrive in this expanding sector.

“ACL Essex works with Essex employers to bridge skills gaps so that local people can enjoy the opportunities in their area. The ACL centre in Basildon is a shining example with a dedicated training salon, making new careers in the sector accessible to everyone.”

ACL Essex offers adults a personalised training experience, delivering industry-standard courses with smaller class sizes and dedicated tutor support.  ACL learners benefit from high levels of one‑to‑one time and tailored skills development. These give clear progression opportunities into employment, self‑employment, or further qualifications.

The learning provider has recently launched a new dedicated training salon at its Basildon centre, but offers hair and beauty courses across the county. Upcoming hair and beauty courses offered by ACL Essex include:

– Beauty Specialist Level 2 starting 9 March at ACL Basildon

– Reflexology Level 3 starting 18 March at ACL Clacton

– Gel Polish Level 2 starting 14 April at ACL Chelmsford

– Hairdressing Level 3 starting 15 April at ACL Colchester

– Beauty Level 3 starting 5 May at ACL Colchester

Funding can be available for some of the courses and learners.

Claire Barclay, Hair & Beauty Curriculum Lead, ACL Essex commented: “Our programmes continue to deliver outstanding outcomes. 89% of our learners progress into employment, further study, or higher-level qualifications.

“One in three students secures industry employment within three months of completing their course. Many progress into leading spas including Bannatyne’s Health Clubs and Lifehouse Spa & Hotel. Employers consistently praise the quality of our learners, with 94% rating them as work ready and recognising their professionalism, client care, and technical skill.”

In addition to its high‑quality training offer, ACL Essex works closely with partner organisations and employers throughout the year to enrich learner experience and celebrate excellence in the sector. Together, they collaborate to host a range of hair and beauty competitions, including the next event taking place at ACL Colchester on Friday 15 May, which will showcase learners’ talent, creativity, and outstanding achievements. ACL learners also play an active role in community engagement activities, volunteering their skills to support local charities, such as offering free haircuts to people experiencing homelessness, and providing valuable services to the wider community. Organisations interested in partnering with ACL Essex or exploring collaborative opportunities are encouraged to get in touch.
