Adult education provider, ACL Essex, is offering a range of courses across Essex for beginners through to experts.
Cornelius Keating from High Wych is encouraging other people to embrace lifelong learning. Cornelius, 60, studied at ACL Essex in Harlow and believes he’s more adaptable to learning now than he ever has been.
Here’s Cornelius’s story:
“I was umming and ahhing about going to ACL Essex. When I joined, I thought I’d last a couple of months, if that. But my experience there has been eye-opening. I’m so happy to be achieving something and knowing that putting the effort in is worth it. I’ve really enjoyed it.
“I think I actually feel more adaptable to learning now than I ever have been. I think you reach an age where you appreciate the opportunity to learn, whereas when I was younger, not so much. Now I’m really grateful for it.
“I’d tell anyone to just join ACL Essex. You’re going to meet some lovely people, from all different backgrounds. You’re really going to enjoy it. Just do it.
“It’s been wonderful; it’s given more to my life than I ever expected.”
Cornelius received the ‘Lifelong Learning’ award at the ACL Essex Awards in 2024. This award celebrates people who know there are many opportunities to further their knowledge and develop their skills, and it’s never too late to start. Recipients of this award are true advocates of this, are role models to others, and understand the huge impact learning can have on our lives.
