ACL Learner Art on display upstairs at Harlow Central Library

Take a look at some amazing local artwork at Harlow Central Library in the heart of Harlow Town centre.

Upstairs at Harlow library, just a short walk from Winter Gardens you will find some beautiful artwork which showcases the versatility and creativity of our Art Drawing and Painting learners at ACL Harlow. We’re thrilled to use the space above the library to provide a platform for our learners to display work which has been created using recycled and repurposed materials such as wallpaper, plastics, and string.

ACL Harlow learners have their artwork proudly on display showcasing their talent and hard work. Some of them have only recently rediscovered their passion for art and are enjoying developing their creative skills. It’s very inspiring to read about the techniques the students have used to create their work, especially showing such a passion for using recycled materials highlighting how important creating sustainable materials are for our planet. It’s never too late to learn a new skill and use this to highlight some very important issues that can help save the planet!

Visit the exhibition at Harlow Library, The High, Harlow CM20 1HA.

Keep reading to hear from our learners what they have enjoyed about the course.

Mary Couling writes about why she started attending the Art and Drawing course in Harlow:

WHY I ATTEND THE ART CLASS AND THE BENEFITS IT BRINGS

Learning to paint has been a long-held desire ever since my early schooldays – many years ago!  I took the plunge and joined an art painting and drawing class in Harlow a few years ago and have never looked back since.  Before I joined, I could just about draw (and not very well!) but painting was a mystery!  I never really understood the difference between how and when to use watercolours, or oils, or acrylics, let alone even knowing that such things as pastels, charcoals, inks and other media even existed.  Then there are the various types of paintbrushes, different art papers and ways of creating artworks – all unfamiliar to me at the time!

I deliberately sought out a class that would give me an introduction to more than one type of media and I have been lucky to be taught by a remarkable tutor/professional artist.  She is so creative and inspires and challenges me every lesson, yet gives me the freedom and encouragement to express myself and to make mistakes and learn from them.

Belonging to an art class with like-minded people and an excellent tutor is amazing and never dull – we have fun and enjoy discussing our common interest, as well as the news and events of the day!  I would encourage anyone who might be thinking about it to join us!

THE BENEFITS OF BEING ABLE TO EXHIBIT MY WORK

As a “learner artist”, exhibiting my artwork is stimulating, gratifying and scary!

This Exhibition provides a shared space to gather inspiration from the work of my peers and, hopefully, communicate a thought-provoking message to others using the universal “language” of art.

This Exhibition also contributes to my personal development, providing an opportunity to receive valuable critical feedback and helping me to learn and improve my work as a result.

We’re grateful to Mary Couling for sharing her experiences with us, and it’s wonderful to see her having an incredible and inspiring time at ACL Harlow. Thank you Mary!
