This term, Harlowbury Primary School in Old Harlow has been alive with creativity and collaboration, thanks to the engaging Family Learning activities led by our passionate tutor, Glynis.
Hands-On Learning and Fun
Families have enjoyed a variety of interactive sessions including den building, model making, Pizza baking, and crafting fun fruit salads. These activities are designed to be both educational and enjoyable, helping children and adults develop practical skills while spending quality time together.
Supporting ESOL Learners
Family Learning also hosts ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) workshops, at Harlowbury Primary School which support learners and their families for whom English is a second language. These sessions help build confidence in communication and provide valuable support for navigating everyday life in the UK.
A Commitment to Inclusive Learning
Family Learning and Harlowbury Primary School are both deeply committed to inclusive learning, ensuring that every child and family feels supported and valued. The school also offers speech and language support, helping children develop essential communication skills in a nurturing environment. Our Family Learning courses and activities compliment the skills learned in Harlowbury school.
Celebrating Achievements
Throughout the term, learners have proudly showcased their work, highlighting the creativity, effort, and progress made during the sessions. It’s truly inspiring to see families learning together, supporting one another, and building lifelong skills.
Family Learning at William Martin School
Similar Family Learning courses are also running at William Martin School in Harlow, where families are engaging in enriching activities that promote learning and bonding. These sessions mirror the success seen at Harlowbury and continue to grow in popularity across the town.
Summer Holiday Events and Courses
Looking ahead, Family Learning will be running a range of exciting events and courses throughout the summer holidays. These are a fantastic opportunity for families to stay engaged, learn new skills, and enjoy time together during the break.
Building stronger school communities
The ACL Essex Family Learning team works closely with schools in the local community, offering workshops to parents, carers, and guardians within the school environment. These partnerships are vital, as they help break down barriers to learning by making sessions easily accessible, often right after school drop-off. This approach not only supports adult learners but also strengthens the school community. The indirect impact on children, whose parents are gaining new skills and confidence, is invaluable and contributes to a more supportive and enriched learning environment for everyone.
