Meet the team – Kemal
Kemal Khan – Employer Engagement Officer
What is your role at ACL for Your Future Matters?
My name is Kemal I am one of the new Employer Engagement Officers at ACL. As a dedicated team member, we are all looking forward to helping the Tendring Community access work and education opportunities on their doorstep.
Why did you take on this role?
My background is in teaching, supporting children with learning disabilities and school leavers. Unfortunately, many who leave school early are unable to read and write. I also left school with very little education due to my own disability.
I believe everyone will reach a time in their life when they are willing to learn but are limited in their opportunities to do so. Your Future Matters provides that opportunity for many to improve their life through the gift of education.
When you reach that time in your life when you need skills to progress, that’s when you become ready and willing to learn. I would like to help people understand how important education really is. Your Future Matters will give us all a chance for a better future. I want to be part of that!
What does it mean to be part of the Your Future Matters project?
Education is the most valuable gift society can give to people, but many don’t realise this until they think it’s too late or they haven’t had the best experiences in the past. Your Future Matters allows us to help and possibly change people’s lives by encouraging them to think about further education in a more positive light, with a view to providing them with opportunities and guidance.
How does Your Future Matters support local residents?
The project allows us to support our community, letting people know about the different skills and opportunities available to them. This can include job searching, apprenticeships or just developing existing skills. We can support them to find opportunities available.
How does Your Future Matters support local businesses?
I ran my own business for many years and understood the need to keep ahead of my competitors. We run a variety of courses at ACL which can upskill your workforce and help them to be more robust in today’s ever-changing market. We also provide incentives for businesses which take on apprenticeships. Your Future Matters is designed to support local businesses through job creation through education.
Tell us a little more about yourself – what do you do when you’re not working on this project?
I love cars and I love fixing them. Last year I was privileged to have received a donated Cornea in my right eye from an 89 year-old lady from Liverpool. Her gift of sight has granted me a passion for life and have since started a new online teaching qualification through ACL. Providing support for children with learning disabilities or aspiring car mechanics gives me a great sense of achievement.
