What’s The 2022 Skills Challenge?
ACL’s Parent Ambassador programme aims to improve the lives of families living in Essex. Parent Ambassadors will volunteer in schools and community venues, whilst developing new skills to support others. Through the programme, Parent Ambassadors will be able to positively influence families to engage with learning opportunities, improve wellbeing, and raise aspirations.
This is a pilot scheme for parents, grandparents or carers who have children that attend schools in the Basildon or Colchester area. If you’re interested in becoming a Parent Ambassador, please complete the form on this page.

Why should I want to learn new skills?
Learning new skills throughout our lives is important, not just for our own happiness, but also for the people around us. It supports our children’s development, the enjoyment when spending time with others, reduces stress and helps us feel more fulfilled and confident in a changing world.
I don’t feel I have the time
A lot of us are very busy, our weeks are made up of work and family commitments and learning something new may be something that we just don’t think we can fit into our lives at this time. The ways we learn new skills have changed. We can now learn them in our free time, at home online, at work as part of a development plan or apprenticeship. Learning can be tailored to you.
I feel like I’ve been forgotten about
You are not alone in feeling this. There are many people who feel like they have been let down by previous education providers. We’re here to provide you with the support you need. All you need to do is reach out to us and tell us what you would like to achieve.
I don’t have the money to train
Gaining new skills and qualifications (in the past) has been expensive. There are now fully funded options available for those who have not gained equivalent levels or earn below a certain household income. We also have free courses in Maths, English, Employability and Digital skills, in addition to Mental Health and Wellbeing to support you. Our staff are here for you to provide you with advice on the next step in your learning journey and career pathways.

Become a Digital Champion
Digital champions are volunteer super-heroes, determined to share their knowledge of digital technology with people in their local community, improving the confidence, security and abilities of those who require it. Digital Champions improve lives across the county through empowering people to learn basic digital skills and access the online world, benefiting from digital technology.
