Background
Leanne is a highly skilled individual with a great deal of knowledge in the realm of construction and architecture. After, completing her studies in Architectural Technology, Leanne went on to work as an architectural technologist focusing predominately on extension refurbishment and property upgrade. She now works as a project manager in architecture. Leanne was seeking a new venture when her colleague mentioned retrofit and after a bit of research, she came across The Retrofit Academy’s collaboration with Essex County Council.
Experience & advice
She successfully applied for a place on the Level 4 Award in Domestic Retrofit Assessment Combined Course, which also trained her to be a Domestic Energy Assessor. “Although, I had been dealing with property upgrades I was not fully aware of the information…in the course”. Leanne expresses how informative and useful she found the course, and how she was able to apply her newly found knowledge to her current career through “understanding the consequences of retrofit” whilst upgrading property. The Level 4 Award in Domestic Retrofit Assessment is delivered through a blended learning approach, requiring learners to be motivated and organised. Leanne stresses the importance of time management (“ensure you set aside the time”) and immersing yourself in the course to help maintain momentum.

Impact & the future
Since graduating, Leanne has furthered her studies and is currently studying for the Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination and Risk Management, which she is thoroughly enjoying and aims to complete by the end of October 2022. Furthermore, completion of the Level 4 course has empowered Leanne to embark on to a new business venture. She shared that she has now set up her own company and is “excited about the future”. She is optimistic about her career prospects and already has some opportunities in the pipeline as Retrofit Assessor and Retrofit Coordinator for housing associations in the London area.
