Apprenticeships are a great way to grow your workforce and harness talent. They can help you attract and retain the best employees for your business by upskilling employees and introducing innovative ideas and skills into your business – especially with the government offering to fund potentially all the training costs.
Employers will receive £3,000 for new employees of any age who start their apprenticeship from 1 April 2021 to 30 September 2021.
The incentive payment is in addition to the £1,000 employers already receive for hiring an apprentice:
- aged 16 to 18 years old
- under 25 with an education, health and care plan or who has been in the care of their local authority
This means that some employers could receive £4000 per apprentice.
At ACL we will support you to unlock government funding to grow your business and productivity. Our dedicated employer engagement team will support you through the recruitment process we will work with you to understand your business needs. This ensures you recruit the very best apprentices for your business.
Support your existing staff to retrain & upskill
Did you know you can also use Apprenticeship funding to train your existing workforce? We have a range of apprenticeship standards that can support you to develop and upskill your team. Offering training to your employees increases morale and their loyalty to you as an employer. Therefore, retraining staff through apprenticeships can improve overall staff satisfaction and retention because they feel that you are investing in them and their future with the company.
Incentives become more generous for you the employer
From April, the incentives will become more generous with a £3,000 payment per hire, regardless of the apprentice’s age. This is on top of the £1,000 payment provided for new apprentices aged 16 to 18 and those under 25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan, meaning that some employers could receive £4,000 in total. The team at ACL will support you to claim these incentives.
You need to create an apprenticeship service account to apply for the incentives. Our Business Development team can support you to create your account and navigate the funding. ACL.BusinessDevelopment@essex.gov.uk
Apprenticeship training and apprenticeship standard qualifications also continue to be fully funded for those aged 16-18 for those employed by companies with less than 50 staff. For those with over 50 staff and recruiting apprentices aged 19+ then a co-investment payment or levy payment remains in place.
