Amy completed her Level 2 Business Administration apprenticeship and is using the skills learnt to complement her role as a Business Support Assistant within Essex County Council.
“I choose to do an apprenticeship after leaving 6th form as I saw it as an opportunity to gain experience of the workplace, earning a wage as well as continuing my education.”

What impact has the apprenticeship programme had on your career?
I started my apprenticeship at Essex County Council in 2010 working on NVQ Business Administration level two, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to complete my level 3 following this. Towards the end of my apprenticeship I secured a permanent Business Support Assistant position within Essex County Council. I remained in this position for a few years before securing a Business Support Administrator role in the same team, completing the same work but with added responsibilities. In October 2019 I was successful in obtaining a Business Centre Manager role. I truly believe if it had not been for my apprenticeship with Essex County Council, I wouldn’t still be working here 11 years later. My career has continued to develop throughout my working life starting as an apprentice.
Why would you recommend apprenticeships to other people looking at career options?
I would recommend an apprenticeship to other people as it is a great opportunity to get into the workplace and develop invaluable skills, gaining qualifications and earning a wage at the same time.
Why would you recommend ACL as an apprenticeship provider to other employers?
I would recommend ACL as an apprentice provider as they have a team of knowledgeable employees who provide support through every part of the process. As an apprentice myself in the early days I was provided with all the support and encouragement I needed to complete my apprenticeship and push myself to complete a level 3 qualification. 10 years on and in a new position I am currently undertaking an ILM qualification with ACL and the standard of organisation, support and knowledge remains at the same high standard as it did 10 years ago. On the other side of things as a line manager and recruiting apprentices for my team ACL have continued to display their knowledge support and commitment to learners.
We are continuing to deliver our high-quality apprenticeship programme throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and can help you consider different options for your business and the specific circumstances you are currently working within. Businesses could receive funding of up to £3,000 to support them to take on a new apprentice and we offer apprenticeships at intermediate, advanced and higher levels.
