We are debunking some of the biggest apprenticeship myths and misconceptions. Is there a myth you’d like busted? Send us a message and we’ll be happy to answer you!

Myth 1 – Apprenticeships are for 16-24 year olds or school and college leavers…
Apprenticeships are not just for 16-24 years olds or school and college leavers. Existing employees could be eligible and suitable for apprenticeships too – they are a great way to support individuals who require development, have changed roles, gained additional responsibilities or recently been promoted. Additionally, individuals looking for a change of career could be eligible.
Myth 2 – The paperwork and process is complicated and time consuming…
The paperwork and process is not complicated and time consuming. Yes – there are a few things that you will need to sign and set up, but our team is on hand to guide you through every step of the way
Myth 3 – Apprenticeships are expensive…
Apprenticeships are not expensive. Whether you’re paying full cost from your levy or the 5% co-investment fee we believe that apprenticeships are great value for money. All of our programmes follow a rich curriculum that enables apprentices to not just learn something new but to embed and develop these skills to improve their performance at work. In some instances, grants of £1k are available to help with costs. Essex County Council have also recently set up a Levy Transfer Service where businesses can pledge for apprenticeship funding. Therefore, a Levy company could gift funding to pay for the apprenticeship cost, saving you the 5% co-investment. This is a matching service so it isn’t guaranteed you would successfully match with a Levy gifting company.
Myth 4 – An apprenticeship means your employee will have to go to college one day a week…
An apprenticeship does not mean they have to spend 1 day a week in a classroom environment or college. Other forms of training could be included in this percentage such as shadowing, online training, and one-to-ones.
Myth 5 – Recruiting a new apprentice is difficult…
Recruiting a new apprentice is not difficult. Our Business Development Team will work with you to provide a free recruitment service to source a new team member – we use the National Apprenticeship Service, our digital channels and work with colleagues in Essex County Council to find the right person for your position.
We are continuing to deliver our high-quality apprenticeship programme throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and can help you consider different options for your business and the specific circumstances you are currently working within. Businesses could receive funding of up to £3,000 to support them to take on a new apprentice and we offer apprenticeships at intermediate, advanced and higher levels.
